Milkfish is so popular in Taiwan that it has its own themed museum in Anping and they also celebrate a milkfish cultural festival in Kaohsiung. Although it is one of the boniest fish, they loved it because of its tender meat. It is usually prepared in different ways: milkfish congee porridge, pan-fried milkfish, milkfish ball soup and braised milkfish.
It is called bangús in the Philippines, where it is the national fish.
