Taho

You will never miss the sound of the taho vendor selling this treat to children and adults alike when you are in the Philippines. "Taho...tahhooo....," they shout like an air raid siren.

You will never miss the sound of the taho vendor selling this treat to children and adults alike when you are in the Philippines. "Taho...tahhooo....," they shout like an air raid siren. Just imagine it like the typical ice cream man in the United States, you will know what you are going to expect - brown sugar syrup is stirred into warm soybean custard and topped with sago pearls.

It is very interesting for foreigners for foreigners to know that it has its origins in China when vendors sold it from house to house with their buckets of soybean custard and sugary syrup and sago pearls in separate compartments. Nowadays, commercial fastfood chains and supermarkets have tried to package it in their own sanitized versions.

In my case, I still prefer the old school of having it by bringing up my favorite mug and let the vendor pour the ingredients unto it.
