Kalamay is a dessert from the Visayas region that is made with coconut milk, glutinous rice and brown sugar. It can be eaten on its own but sometimes people prefer it with margarine, peanut butter or vanilla. It can also be used to sweeten different other types of food.

It is the Philippines' answer to the Chinese's Niangao or Tikoy, but this native food is a lot sweeter and more viscous. There various versions of kalamay and one of the most popular is the one that is preserved inside a coconut shell.
