Myanmar has a unique tea shop culture and not just the tiny cups of sweet, milky tea that they offer. Their tea shops is also a window to their various cuisine as reflected on the ethnicity of the shop owners. Ethnic Burmese tea shops provide you traditional noodle or rice dishes such as the htamin thoke. On the other hand, the Indian Muslim-owned tea shops tend to serve South Asian-influenced, deep-fried savory snacks such as samosas or poori (deep-fried bread served with a potato curry) or baked breads such as nanbya (naan). The Chinese-owned tea shops often feature baked sweets as well as meaty steamed buns and dim sum-like items.
