Tian Bu La

Tian Bu La is a favorite Taiwanese snack that is a fish paste molded into various shapes and sizes, deep-fried, then boiled in a broth. Just before you take a bite, the pieces of solid fish paste are taken from the broth and then smothered in brown sauce.

As simple as it looks, tian bu la has unique combination of sweet flavor and chewy texture. It is similar to the Japanese oden but with more sweetness, tougher fish texture and a signature sauce. And there is more to it than meets the eye, get some soup from the vendor and add it to the remaining sauce in the bowl.
